YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Elizabeth Health Center has been accredited for three years for its inpatient rehabilitation program by the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF).
Cancer prevention award
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has given the Ohio Division of the American Cancer Society the "Innovations in Prevention" award for ACS' Healthy Kids Network. The HKN tells parents, teachers and children about the benefits of health programs at school. Helping children adopt healthful habits early in life is important in reducing the impact of cancer. Yoga, stress reduction
YOUNGSTOWN -- Forum Health's Center for Behavioral Medicine offers two classes -- Gentle Yoga for beginners and advanced beginners and Stress Reduction, Wellness and Healing Program -- beginning in January.
The nine-week Gentle Yoga classes are for nine weeks beginning Jan. 14 at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, on Thursdays from 6 to 7:15 p.m. The cost is $75, or $50 for JCC members and Forum Health employees. Call (330) 799-0323 to register.

Smoking cessation classes
SALEM -- Salem Community Hospital is offering a smoking cessation program on Saturdays, Jan. 10-31, from 10 a.m. to noon at the hospital. The cost is $50. For more information or to register, call (330) 332-7415.

Hugs and Hope Club for Sick Kids is looking for "elves" for the holidays to "adopt" a critically ill child for whom they will shop, wrap and mail gifts. Epsilon Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is in search of black and Hispanic fashion designers in the Youngstown area. Meridian board members
YOUNGSTOWN -- Meridian Services, a nonprofit provider of health and social wellness programs in the Mahoning Valley, has appointed five new members to its board of directors. They are: Gordon Ellis, Austintown Township police chief; June Johnson, Home Savings and Loan; Yvonne Mathis, associate director for diversity and multicultural affairs and director of the Project Health Quest program at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine; Dr. James Shanahan, an urban economist serving as the Senior Research Associate at Youngstown State University's Center for Urban Studies; and Arlene Thompson, Youngstown City Council clerk.
