GIRLS BASKETBALL Springfield remains undefeated



The Tigers won their fifth straight game by defeating Mooney.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lindsay Johnson and Amber Bodrick put on a scoring duel, but the Springfield High girls basketball team came out on top, defeating Cardinal Mooney 44-38 Thursday.
Johnson scored 11 of her 20 points in the first quarter when the Tigers (5-0) established a 19-12 lead.
Bodrick scored seven of her 20 points in the third quarter when Mooney (1-4) closed to 33-27.
With about three minutes remaining, Mooney closed the deficit to one point, 34-33, but never gained the lead.
Bodrick added eight rebounds and Gina Brunetti had seven assists.
South Range 77, Campbell 15
NORTH LIMA -- Michelle Pingley and Tara Chizmar each scored 14 points to lead South Range, which took a 23-2 lead entering the second quarter.
Brittany Oliver and Natalie Biastro each added 10 points for the Raiders (3-2), who have won three straight.
Sophia Brown had 10 points for Campbell (0-5).
Niles 59, Chaney 44
NILES -- Senior guard Stacia Ray fired in 31 points to lead Niles.
The Red Dragons (6-1), tied 11-11 after the first quarter, pulled ahead 25-19 by the break.
Jaclyn Sears of Niles grabbed nine rebounds and Shannon Floyd had five assists.
Quiana Faison led the Cowboys (1-5) with 12 points. Tierra Jones chipped in with 10 points and she grabbed seven rebounds.
Columbiana 65, Mineral Ridge 34
COLUMBIANA -- Carly Washinko scored 26 points and Lisa Simon added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers (5-0).
Columbiana led 30-25 at the break but outscored the Rams 35-9 in the second half.
Rachel Siler scored 10 points for Mineral Ridge (3-2).
United 49, Western Reserve 24
BERLIN CENTER -- Trista Houck collected 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals for United (3-2).
Ashley Bergman added 14 points for the Golden Eagles.
Emily Johnson scored six points for Western Reserve.
Southington 40, Lordstown 33
LORDSTOWN -- Brittanie Gillion scored 12 points to lead Southington (2-3, 1-0) in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game.
The Wildcats made just 6-of-23 shots at the foul line, while Lordstown was 3-of-15.
Emily Rech led the Red Devils (1-5, 0-2) with 13 points.
Maplewood 49, Bloomfield 20
CORTLAND -- The Rockets held Bloomfield to 12 points through three quarters and none in the first period.
Stephanie Schwartz sparked the Rockets (6-1, 2-0 NAC) with 19 points and she grabbed 10 of 29 rebounds.
Kristine Troyer led Bloomfield with 11 points.
