St. Elizabeth Society marks century

YOUNGSTOWN -- The St. Elizabeth Society Branch 161 First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association celebrated its 100th anniversary Nov. 16 with a Mass of thanksgiving at St. Matthias Church.
Monsignor Peter Polando and the Rev. Michael Swierz concelebrated the Mass.
Over 200 members attended a brunch in the school hall, where Ruth Bartos, president, presented a check for $5,000 to Christine Kijowski, the school principal, for the school's new computer lab.
Mary Adams, 95, the organization's oldest member, was presented with a bouquet of a dozen yellow roses.
