SIGNIFICANT SERVICE For the community
Serving as current officers of the Youngstown Chapter of Links are:

Under their leadership, members continue to present cultural and entertaining programs, to promote health and fitness projects, and to focus on developing a program of long-term involvement in education and health care, especially for the elderly. Achieving those goals this year included:
An "Evening of Elegance" featuring art and jazz was held May 9 at The Butler Institute of American Art. Local artist Al Bright painted an abstract picture to jazz music during the evening. The chapter presented the painting and a check for $1,000 to the institute to assist with its summer art program for children.
On Sept. 20 the organization hosted an international event at Youngstown State University designed to promote the strengthening of bonds between African and African-American cultures.
Continuing its efforts to improve health in the community, the Links held a Walk-a-Thon on Sept. 27 at Wick Park. Funds from the event benefited such charities as Grace Place Medical Services Inc., a medical facility on Oak Hill Avenue for low-income individuals in need of medical help.
Collected toys for kids at its annual holiday luncheon Dec. 14.
