MAHONING COUNTY Cops arrest man in abduction of local woman
Youngstown police are investigating a report that a man arrested in Austintown this morning beat and abducted a woman at knife point from a Tyrell Street apartment.
David Lee Brown, 34, of Cool Street, was charged by Austintown police with possession of drug paraphernalia then turned over to Youngstown police, who arrested him on an abduction charge, reports show.
Youngstown police called Austintown police about 2 a.m. and said that a man was holding a woman at knife point in a van and that he was going to force her to shoplift from Walgreens on Mahoning Avenue.
Austintown police waited in the Walgreens parking lot until the van arrived. Reports state that when officers stopped the van, the woman got out and ran to police and thanked them. She had fresh bruises on her face, reports state.
The woman told police she was beaten at the Tyrell Street apartment and abducted at knife point. Police searched the van but did not find a knife. They also searched Brown and found a suspected crack pipe in his pocket, reports show.
