A safe way to remove rustfrom cast-iron cookware
If your cast-iron cookware is covered with rust, here is a safe and easy way to remove it while preserving the cookware's finish. You'll need a lemon, salt and a bit of olive oil.
First, cover the bottom of a small dish with table salt. Next, cut a lemon in half and dip it into the salt. Place the salt-covered lemon into the rusty skillet and rub in a circular pattern. Periodically re-dip the lemon into the salt. Once all the lemon juice has been drawn out of that half of the lemon, continue with the other half. Rinse the skillet with fresh water and place it on the burner to dry completely. Finish the job by applying a couple of tablespoons of olive oil with a soft dry cloth to the skillet.

Some hot adviceon burning wood
Some people really like the smell of burning wood. So here's some advice from Penn State on what to burn:
UA good firewood tree is not necessarily the straightest and tallest tree in the forest. Choose trees with crooked stems, ruptured bark, or broken crowns. The healthiest trees should be left behind to increase the future value of the woodlot.
UWhich species make the best firewood "depends on preference," says Mike Powell of the university's forestry school. All hardwoods, or deciduous trees, have some value as firewood. "Yellow poplar, willow, and cottonwood generate the least amount of heat and won't last as long as an oak would. Lower-quality oaks like scarlet and pin make good firewood trees." Locust burns longest and generates the most heat because its wood is the densest per unit volume.
UMany people choose to cut dead trees for firewood because the wood is dry, but dead trees benefit the forest, since they slowly return nutrients to the soil, serve as seedbeds for some plants, and provide habitat for important insects, amphibians, and other animals. You want to retain both standing and fallen dead trees -- the bigger the better.
