YSU BASKETBALL Clemson's Slosser returns to Valley
The former Poland High standout will face the Penguins.
YOUNGSTOWN -- For the first time in school history, the Youngstown State women's basketball team will play host to an Atlantic Coast Conference school, when Clemson visits Beeghly Center Friday for a 7 p.m. game.
The contest will mark the return to the area of former Poland High standout Maggie Slosser, who is a senior starter for the Tigers.
The only other time the Penguins played a team from the ACC was in 1998, when they lost to North Carolina State 88-61 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

YSU (1-6) has lost six straight, including a 66-53 setback to Kent State last Saturday. Junior Jessica Olmstead led the Penguins with 13 points and eight rebounds, while senior Devin Novak added 11 points. Junior Melissa Tarrant came off the bench to score nine points, while freshman Kristy Gaudiose added eight points and six assists.
Junior Cathy Hanek leads the Penguins in scoring, averaging 9.4 points per game, while Olmstead is second at 8.9. Senior Jessica Forsythe leads the team and is fourth in the Horizon League with 7.4 rebounds per game and she's averaging 7.6 points per game.
Slosser (6-foot-2) is one of four senior starters for Clemson (7-1), averaging 11.8 points and 8 rebounds per game. She's shooting 49.4 percent from the floor, and has six steals and six blocked shots this season.
Senior guard Lakeia Stokes leads the Tigers at 17.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Senior Julie Aderhold is averaging 12.8 points per game and sophomore Julie Talley is averaging 10.8 points per game.
Gaudiose ranks fourth in the Horizon League in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.17. The 5-7 guard is also seventh in the Horizon League with 3 assists per game.
The Penguins travel to Akron for a 2 p.m. game Sunday.
