Man dies in Arizona fire
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- An 82-year-old Youngstown-area man died early Wednesday in a house fire when he tried to rescue two dogs, officials said.
Bob Cassidy got out of the hillside home where his daughter lives but decided to return in search of the dogs, firefighters said. He was found dead on the kitchen floor. His exact address was unavailable.
The fire was caused by a malfunctioning television, fire authorities told The Arizona Republic newspaper.
Cassidy was pronounced dead shortly after the 2:50 a.m. fire, which caused $150,000 damage to the house, the newspaper reported.
Cassidy's daughter, Barbara Cassidy, was treated for smoke inhalation.
Arrested in drug raid
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 27-year-old West Delason Avenue man was arrested on multiple drug charges in a vice squad raid at 530 Sherwood Ave. on Wednesday evening.
Arrested in the 7:10 p.m. raid was Lamar Ali Robinson, who is charged with trafficking in crack cocaine and OxyContin, abuse of marijuana, morphine, Vicodin and Tussinex, and being a felon in possession of firearms.
Police said they found all of the above drugs in the house along with two fully loaded 9mm handguns and a precision scale bearing cocaine residue. Police also seized two outdoor surveillance cameras and a video monitor in the dining room.
Holiday Blood Drive
YOUNGSTOWN -- The eighth annual Holiday Blood Drive, sponsored by the American Red Cross and News Channel 33, will be Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Byzantine Center at the Grove, 3801 Shady Run Road.
Everyone who donates will receive a poinsettia, courtesy of Inglis Greenhouse, and food donated by area vendors.
ARC blood donors must be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
Donors may give blood every 56 days. Also, donors are asked to bring some form of photo identification and a list of all current medications.

Stable after shooting
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 26-year-old Youngstown man was in stable condition this morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center with two gunshot wounds to his left thigh.
Police said Ramon Kimbrough of Bennington Avenue was walking to his car in the driveway of a home in the 200 block of East LaClede Avenue with a 19-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday when he was shot.
Kimbrough told police that a man dressed in black and wearing a ski mask opened fire after saying, "You know what this is about."
The shooter fled on foot through rear yards.
Food bank donation
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dominion East Ohio has awarded $5,000 to Second Harvest Foodbank for the purchase and installation of new cold storage doors for the freezer and cooler at the food bank's new facility at 2805 Salt Springs Road.
Second Harvest, currently at 1122 E. Midlothian Blvd., takes occupancy of the new facility in January, donated by Dr. Jacques Politi and his family.
Second Harvest provides food to 200 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
Robbery in carport
BOARDMAN -- A 79-year-old township woman told police she was robbed Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, the woman went to the carport of her Moyer Avenue apartment to start her car when a man opened her car door and demanded her purse. The woman told the man she didn't have a purse, and he then felt her pockets for a wallet, which she also didn't have, police said.
The man eventually snatched her car keys and ran off.
Theft from tractor-trailer
AUSTINTOWN -- A Wisconsin man told police he found a woman he didn't know in his tractor-trailer early this morning in the parking lot of the 76 Truck Stop on Seventy-six Drive.
The man told police he went to the tractor-trailer at about 2 a.m. from the truck stop building and found the woman in the front seat. The woman said she was hiding from police and argued with the man, reports state.
The woman tried to leave, and the man grabbed her coat. Reports state that the woman slid out of her coat, got into a car with another man, and left. The Wisconsin man said he later noticed that his cell phone was missing from the tractor-trailer.
