Leetonia official announces plan for two projects
LEETONIA -- Village improvements will be scaled back in 2004, but two projects will still be completed, Village Manager Gary Phillips said.
Phillips said funding for a waterline extension on the south side of the village and the installation of a backup generator for the water treatment plant was approved this year. The village received Community Development Block Grants to fund both projects, he said.
A $61,200 grant will fund extension of a 12-inch waterline from the corner of Front and Chestnut streets, under the railroad tracks and then east on Columbia Street.
Phillips said the 12-inch line will supplement the old waterlines until the village can begin to replace old lines in the residential areas.
When replacement in the neighborhoods can be funded, the 12-inch line will be a trunk line with 6- and 8-inch lines coming off it.
A $36,000 grant will provide a generator for the village water plant, Phillips said. The generator will be used to power the water plant in emergencies so the 850 water customers can have uninterrupted service.
Phillips said work on both projects will begin in late spring or in the summer.
