Jackson-Milton school district orders signs to tout levy

NORTH JACKSON -- Schools Superintendent Buck Palmer said that yard signs were recently ordered to remind Jackson-Milton school district residents of a five-year, 2.8-mill renewal levy that will appear on the March 2 ballot.
The levy money will go toward general operating expenses, including employees' salaries and benefits, supplies for students and utilities, Treasurer John Zinger pointed out at Monday night's school board meeting. Zinger predicted the levy should bring about $383,088 to the district annually, and he stressed that it will not mean additional taxes for residents.
A person living in a $50,000 home will continue to pay $43 per year; someone owning a $100,000 home will pay $86 per year, he said.
In other business, school board members thanked outgoing member Dave Snowden for his 12 years of service service.
Snowden decided not to run for another term.
Mitch Mascioli, a sales representative for Quest Diagnostics, a Pittsburgh-based medical labratory company, will replace Snowden beginning in January after being elected to a four-year term in November. He is a 1979 Jackson-Milton High School graduate.
