PREP BASKETBALL Ursuline undone in fourth quarter



Youngstown Christian pounced on Tri-State Christian.
ASHTABULA -- Ursuline held a 40-36 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Lakeside rallied to beat the Irish 64-60 in a non-league boys basketball game Tuesday.
Ashtabula Lakeside (1-2) was paced by Rashaad Osborn's 19 points.
Branndon Braxton paced the Irish (1-2) with 21 points and he pulled down 16 of 18 rebounds. Brett Neeley chipped in with 19 points.
Youngstown Christian 76, Tri-State Christian 24
YOUNGSTOWN -- Eleven players scored for the Eagles (2-3), who built a 41-9 halftime lead.
Mike Byrdy sparked the Eagles with 16 points and three steals. Dominic Vitullo added 10 points and five rebounds.
Minerva 68, West Branch 50
BELOIT -- Adam Martig scored 13 points and Ryan Casteel added 10 for West Branch (1-4, 1-1) in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Wellsville 79, Edison Local 42
WELLSVILLE -- Junior Derek Thompson had four points, nine rebounds and 13 assists to lead Wellsville (2-1). Bill McNichol had 19 points and Brandon Thomas and Josh Congrove each added 18 points.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Laurel dropped Neshannock 51-34 in a WPIAL Section 2 Class AA game.
Leading the balanced scoring for the Spartans (6-1, 1-0) was Bobby Turner with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Doug Brown and Mike Burkett each had 12 points.
Brandon Ryan paced the Lancers (6-1, 0-1) with 15 points.
Farrell 57, Mohawk 45
FARRELL, Pa. -- Tied 14-14 after the first quarter, Farrell started to pull away in the second period and led 27-22 at the break.
Dominique Blackwell led the Steelers (3-4) with 20 points and Bobby Wright chipped in with 13.
Shawn Carr led the Warriors with 28 points.
Shenango 44, Riverside 41
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Wildcats (6-2, 1-0) built a 35-29 lead by halftime of the Section 2 AA opener, then slowed down the game and held off the Panthers (3-4, 0-1) in the second half.
Terry Grossetti sparked Shenango with 17 points and he had four blocks and four steals. Shawn DeJohn chipped in with 14 points. Steve McNees grabbed seven rebounds.
Jimmy Morgan led the Panthers with 11 points and Brian Mohr pulled down seven rebounds.
Girls
YOUNGSTOWN -- Rachel Coristin scored 18 points as the Youngstown Christian High girls basketball team defeated Tri-State Christian 51-20 Tuesday.
The Eagles (3-2) have won three straight games.
Danielle Pecchia also scored 11 points for the Eagles.
