MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE Williams lifts W. Michigan to easy win over Fordham

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Mike Williams scored 27 points to lead Western Michigan to an 88-67 non-conference win Saturday over Fordham.
Williams scored Western's first eight points and had four consecutive baskets in a 14-0 run in the second half. Four starters reached double figures in scoring for Western (3-1), which won its ninth consecutive home game.
Brian Snider scored a career-high 10 points for Western.
The Broncos led by as many as 25 after overcoming an early 8-0 deficit. Center Anthony Kann had his first double-double of the season, with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Derrick Breland led Fordham (2-5) with 19 points, including six 3-point baskets. In his previous six games, Breland had made 1-of-10 3-point shots.
Fordham's Michael Haynes scored 15 points before leaving with an ankle injury with 2:21 left in the first half.
Marshall 85, N. Illinois 76
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Ronny Dawn scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half to lead Marshall to a victory over Northern Illinois in their Mid-American Conference opener.
Freshman Tre Whitted added 12 points, Marvin Black had 12 points and 10 rebounds while A.W. Hamilton had 11 assists for Marshall, which beat Northern Illinois for the seventh straight time.
Indiana St. 66, Ball St. 65
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- David Moss scored 24 points for Indiana State and the Sycamores held off a late rally to beat Ball State.
Ball State led 37-33 at the half, but a basket by Marcus Howard gave Indiana State (3-3) its final points and a 66-58 lead with 3:45 to go.
Buffalo 81, Niagara 79
LEWISTON, N.Y. -- Turner Battle's basket with 0.3 seconds remaining lifted Buffalo to a non-conference win over Niagara.
Buffalo led by as many as 12 points in the second half before Niagara went on an 18-6 run to tie the game at 79 when Juan Mendez sank two free throws with 20 seconds remaining.
