KENT STATE'S CURTIS TO JOIN EUROPEAN TOUR
Kent State's Curtisto join European Tour
British Open champion Ben Curtis, a former golf standout at Kent State, will join the PGA European Tour, making him only the second American with joint memberships on the European and U.S. tours.
Curtis received a 10-year exemption on the European tour by winning the British Open. He must play at least 11 tournaments, although the majors and World Golf Championships count toward that number.
He was ranked 396th when he won the British Open at Royal St. George's, making him the first player in 90 years to win a major in his first try.
He was the only player to finish under par, and beat a list of contenders that included Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Davis Love III.
John Daly is the only other American on both tours.
