COLUMBIANA CORNER Inmate loses freedom, but not sense of humor
The Columbiana County jail inmates who perform chores and remodeling projects at the courthouse are known for their diligence. At least one of them has a sense of humor, too.
County Commissioner Jim Hoppel related that he recently asked an inmate who is skilled in hanging drywall if he would have time soon to undertake a project.
"Let me check my schedule," quipped the prisoner, whose incarceration is set to last until spring.
Columbiana County Soil and Water Conservation District's board of supervisors for 2004 are Joe Stryffeler, Glenn Whiteleather, Richard Zehentbauer, Rhonda Simmonds and Tom Butch. Butch, of Perry Township, was elected at the district's recent year-end meeting.
The Leetonia Booster Club has selected the 2003 Hall of Fame Class. New inductees will be Dr. Paul Conrad, contributor; and Leetonia High School alumni: Tim Trombitas and Ken DiCross, Class of 1969; Nikki Harrold, Class of 1992; Joseph Bernard, Class of 1945; and Vincent Sevenich, Class of 1955.
The new inductees will be introduced at the boys varsity basketball game Jan. 9. The induction ceremony will be at 9 a.m. Jan 10, and will include a brunch. Tickets for the brunch are $10 and may be purchased through the high school athletic office. For more information, call Marcia Duko, athletic director.
