NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Gary Nolan, a Libertarian Party candidate for U.S. president, will make a campaign stop at noon Wednesday at Steamer's Coffee Shop in Shenley Plaza. His visit is being hosted by the local Libertarian Party.
Nolan is one of five Libertarians running for president. He is from Falls Church, Va.
Shooting death
EAST PALESTINE -- City police and the Columbiana County coroner's office are investigating the apparent accidental shooting death Friday evening of 18-year-old Brenton G. McCurdy of 4201 Adams Road.
Police were called to a West Clark Street home around 7:45 p.m. and found McCurdy lying on the kitchen floor, the victim of an apparent gunshot wound.
A 12-gauge shotgun that may have been involved in the shooting was removed from the house by police, who released no other information Saturday night.
Hotel workers mixer
BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning County Lodging Council, a chapter of the Ohio Hotel & amp; Lodging Association, will have a holiday mixer for local hotel employees from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Boardman Holiday Inn.
In place of an entrance charge, attendees will provide gifts that will be donated to Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital in Youngstown.
Farm equipment safety
GIRARD -- A 12-week safety course on using farm equipment will be offered by Trumbull County Ohio State University Extension 4-H program from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday beginning Jan. 14.
Upon completion of the course, children between the ages of 14 and 16 will receive certification to legally operate tractors and farm machinery.
Children ages 9 to 13 can take the course as a 4-H project but will not receive certification.
A registration form and $18 fee must be received by Jan. 6. Classes will be at the Banner Farm in Girard.
