RAY SWANSON | Keystoner Thiel, Titans earn All-PAC honors

There just wasn't that much difference this season on the football field between the Thiel Tomcats and the Westminster Titans. The teams staged a real barnburner on Oct. 18 in Greenville with the Titans escaping with a 14-13 victory.
So it was with the 2003 All-Presidents' Athletic Conference team, recently released, with both Thiel and Westminster placing six players each on the first team.
Westminster running back, junior Scott Froelich, was named the PAC's player of the year, while Waynesburg's Jeff Hand was named coach of the year. His team won the championship.
Big season
Froelich, who hails from Cuyahoga Falls, had a tremendous season, rushing for 1,486 yards and 15 touchdowns, posting the third highest single-season rushing total in school history. He also hauled in 15 passes for 19 total touchdowns. He had eight 100-yard and three 200-yard rushing games, including a career-high 208 yards against W & amp;J.
Joining Froelich on the first team were teammates Glenn Silvidi (Hubbard), an offensive guard, and senior wide receiver Brian Ekis (Boardman).
Other Titans on first team and on defense were Don Waldron, end (Cortland) outside linebacker Jerry Bonenberger (Mount Lebanon) and Tom Froelich (Cuyahoga Falls), a cornerback.
Leading the Tomcats
Leading Thiel's charge was junior All-American free safety Kennard Davis. From Farrell High, Davis set the school mark for career pass interceptions with 17, including three this season.
He returned two of those three interceptions for touchdowns. He is a two-time NCAA Division III All-American.
Davis' teammates, and first team selections, were Robert Much, junior center; offensive lineman, Nelton Neal; defensive lineman, George Kum-nji; Robert Drake, linebacker, and punter Ryan Swartzfager.
Grove City had no first team selections.
Westminster had two second team selections in offensive linemen Phil Frye and Jim Chaney.
Thiel's second team selections were senior running back Justin Napotnik (Sharpsville), Jonathan Howson, defensive lineman and linebacker Casey Diemert.
Grove City had five second team picks: wide receiver Dave DiDonato, quarterback Sam Mowrey, defensive lineman Monte Bell, linebacker Mike Choby and punter Mike Titzel.
'Canes connection
New Castle High is well known for its outstanding basketball program. Three of the Red Hurricane players have joined forces with Larry Ondako's Westminster College squad this season. All three are transfer students.
They are Mark DeMonaco, a 5-foot-8 sophomore guard; Dom Joseph, 6-3 sophomore forward, and Ed Pagley, 6-0 junior guard.
DeMonaco and Joseph transferred from La Roche College while Pagley transferred from Slippery Rock.
DeMonaco has already made his mark in Titan basketball by scoring 21 points against Philadelphia Bible and 22 against Centre, Ky. Joseph added 11 and seven points in the Titans' first two outings.
