Ohio House OKs billregarding code language
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio House approved a bill, sponsored by state Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood of Niles, that removes terms such as negroes and colored persons from the Ohio Revised Code and replaces them with the term African-American.
The bill received unanimous approval from the House, and was previously approved by the state Senate. It goes to Gov. Bob Taft for his signature.
"This legislation will ensure that our state laws are more respectful to all of our citizens," said Harwood, D-65th.
Special Hubbard meeting
HUBBARD -- The township trustees will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the township administration building, 2600 Elmwood Drive.
They will discuss job r & eacute;sum & eacute;s, zoning board application, professional service biographies, a police levy renewal and the annual Ohio Department of Transportation/Trumbull County Engineer mileage certification.
Farm equipment safety
GIRARD -- A 12-week safety course on using farm equipment will be offered by Trumbull County Ohio State University Extension 4-H program from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday beginning Jan. 14.
Upon completion of the course, children between the ages of 14 and 16 will receive certification to legally operate tractors and farm machinery.
Children ages 9 to 13 can take the course as a 4-H project but will not receive certification.
A registration form and $18 fee must be received by Jan. 6. Classes will be at the Banner Farm in Girard.

Mathews board meeting
VIENNA -- The Mathews Board of Education has changed the date of its next meeting previously scheduled for Dec. 17.
It will meet instead at 6 p.m. Monday at the board of education office. The executive board will meet to discuss agenda items at about 6:30.
