GIRLS Chaney's Williams leads win
Champion won in double overtime, while Liberty doubled up on LaBrae.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Courtney Williams scored 16 points -- all in the second half -- as Chaney High used a 16-5 third-quarter advantage to defeat visiting Canton Timken, 45-41, in a City Series girls basketball opener Monday.
Freshman Tieara Jones added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Cowgirls (1-4, 1-0), while Quiana Faison had 10 rebounds.
Andrea Blackston had 11 points for the Trojans (0-5, 0-1).

CHAMPION -- Jessica Wood scored seven of her 19 points in the second overtime to lift Champion in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
She hit the game-winning basket and sank 3-of-5 free throws. The Golden Flashes were 6-of-9 at the foul line in the second extra period.
Jessica Carpenter chipped in with 12 points and Heather Pegg, who grabbed 13 rebounds, had 10 points.
Cortney Pelyak led the Tigers (1-3, 0-1) with 11 points. Newton Falls had a 32-31 rebounding edge.
Liberty 66,LaBrae 33
LIBERTY -- Lena Esmail fired in 23 points and Brittny Humphrey added 16 for Liberty.
Esmail had 11 rebounds and seven blocks for the Leopards (5-1, 1-0 TAC). Humphrey had six steals and Chenelle Mills had 12 rebounds.
Laura Bate led the Vikings (2-3, 0-1) with 11 points.

CORTLAND -- Loni Sargent had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Shari Bullock added 11 points for Hubbard.
Amanda Taylor added 10 points for the Eagles (2-2, 1-0 TAC).
Jenn Baker had 12 points and Lindsay Whetzel and Natalie Sudzina each added 11 for Lakeview (1-4, 0-1). Christina Martin and Amy Downs each had six rebounds.

BROOKFIELD -- Girard junior Cachet Murray scored 15 points to lead the Indians.
Angela Raggazine and Lora Dorn each added seven points for Girard.
