You have to blame someone, right?
Well, it's the Vindicator's fault. It all started with the Vindicator football poll.
Here was our chance to win $500 or $1,000 just for picking the right teams.
All we had to do was get the best out of a possible 136 points.
So three of us -- myself, my daughter Sandra and future son-in-law Tom -- picked out teams on Monday and hid them from one another until Thursday.
It was then that Sandra made her little chart (she is always marking charts).
I was doing pretty good; 63 has been my lowest score so far and 109 my highest.
Well, this past Monday when the new poll came out, I picked Kansas State to win. Sandra said, "Mom there is no way Kansas State is going to beat Oklahoma."
"Probably not, but I like the underdog," I said.
If they were so sure, why did they pick them only at the 9 spot?
You have to take chances in life, so for me I took Kansas State for a big 1 point.
We have had fun. Haven't won any money yet, but we're still trying. It was fun putting a frownie face next to Tom's, OK. Sandra's too. I got a big 1 point and a smiley face.
Mom was right. It's not always about who wins or loses, it's about how you play the game.
I would be the last person to say, "I told you so, but I told you so."
Gee, if only I had taken Kansas State for 16.
