SCOPE Dance lessons are offered at area senior centers



Members at various SCOPE senior centers in the area will have an opportunity to take lessons in various forms of dance.
Norm Flavell of Mercer, Pa., will teach western square dancing at the Niles Senior Center, 14 E. State St., from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays. He will also teach line dancing at the Niles facility from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays and at Howland Senior Center, 9273 High St. from noon to 2 p.m. Fridays. All classes are $3.
For those who live in the Youngstown area, Flavell will teach traditional square dancing at the Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursdays. The cost will be $2.
Theo Bell of Newton Falls will teach line dancing at Warren Senior Center, 220 W. Market St., from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, and for beginners at Howland from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursdays. The classes are $3 each.
Ballroom dancing with cues will be taught by Charlie Brown of Shalerville at Warren. The beginner class will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, the intermediate class from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, and the advanced class from 8 to 10 p.m. Mondays. Classes are $3 for SCOPE members and $5 for nonmembers.
Jason Burgermyer of Cortland will teach tap dancing from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at Warren, and 2:30 to 3:30 Mondays at Howland. The cost for each class is $2.
Members of the Howland and Warren dance groups will perform in the annual Senior Follies.
