NILES -- Six people accused of holding a 14-year-old Girard girl against her will and binding her with plastic wrap will go to trial after the first of the year.
Niles Municipal Judge Thomas W. Townley set a trial date of 9 a.m. Jan. 5 for the six, who are facing one charge each of kidnapping, felonious assault and child endangerment.
Charles L. Frohman Jr., 19, John C. Sigley, 18, and Tiffany J. Wilson, 18, all of Parkview Avenue, McDonald; Douglas W. Rakich, 43, of South Lorain Avenue, Girard; Ami L. Moldonado, 18, of Andrews Street, Campbell; and Julie L. Gifford, 18, of Youll Street, Niles, are accused of wrapping the Girard teen in plastic wrap and pouring water and dish soap on her face as she lay on the floor.
McDonald police say the teen was at the Parkview Avenue house with the defendants the night of Oct. 12 when a fight broke out between her and one of the women.
Girl's testimony
During a preliminary hearing last month, the teenager testified the group was sitting around that evening, talking and listening to music, before they started drinking vodka. The girl said Wilson accused her of spitting on the floor, and then several people in the group began hitting her in the face and head. She also testified that Sigley bit her on the arm, not breaking the skin, but leaving a bruise.
The girl also testified that Sigley and Rakich held her arms down while Frohman began covering her from her neck to her feet in plastic wrap. Police and court reports say the girl chewed herself free from the plastic wrap and asked to use the phone, but was denied.
The girl's mother and Wilson's father picked her up in the morning and took her to the hospital.
All six defendants are free on bond pending trial.
