WPIAL could add 10th football game

WPIAL could add10th football game
The PIAA has approved a proposal that will allow WPIAL (District 7 schools) to begin football practice a week earlier than currently allowed.
For the last few years, WPIAL schools have played nine regular season games, with 16 schools qualifying in each class for a four-week playoff that ends with four championship games at Heinz Field.
The WPIAL champion then qualified into the PIAA semifinals. District 7 wants to retain that playoff structure. But the proposed changes in the state brackets, still not approved by the PIAA board of directors, have District 7 teams entering the state playoffs in the quarterfinals rather than the semifinals.
