Hearing set in stabbing
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday in Lawrence County Central Court for a woman accused of stabbing her husband.
Police charged Kimberly McKnight, 33, of D Beech Street with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. Police said they found her husband, Richard, 39, on the sidewalk outside their home at 4:53 a.m. Tuesday. He had a stab wound to his chest.
Police said they think the stabbing was the result of a domestic dispute. Mrs. McKnight and her three young children were taken to the Lawrence County Women's Shelter, and she was later arrested, police said. Richard McKnight was taken to Jameson Hospital and later transported to a Pittsburgh hospital. His condition was not available. Mrs. McKnight is in county jail after failing to post a $10,000 bond.

Planners OK land swap
SHARON, Pa. -- The city planning commission has approved a small subdivision that will allow the expansion of Donna's Diner at 10 W. State St. Owners Jim and Donna Winner want 560 square feet of land from the adjacent Veterans Walkway owned by the city and will give the city 621 square feet of land they own, also adjacent to the walkway but farther from the diner. The Winners need the city land for a 1,970-square-foot addition.
The planning commission approved the plan but said it is contingent upon the Winners erecting a life-size bronze statue of an American soldier on the walkway and providing permanent lighting for it. Those terms were part of the original land-swap deal worked out for the project three years ago.
