In the spotlight
YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY
Seven YSU students were among nearly 40 students from six Ohio and Pennsylvania colleges and universities to participate in the third annual Student Leadership Retreat at the McKeever Center in Sandy Lake, Pa., in November. They are Janel Finch of Youngstown, Dan Griesemer of Lima, Ryan McNicholas of Youngstown, Jackie Park of New Castle, Pa., Dan Procopio of Boardman, Tyjuan Young of Youngstown and William Tate of Cleveland.
SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY, Slippery Rock, Pa.
Mary Colleen Patterson of Boardman has accepted membership in the Golden Key International Honour Society. The society recognizes college juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their class and seeks to provide opportunities for leadership, career development, networking and service.
Neil Oberlin of Grove City is one of eight SRU students who recently graduated from the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps National Advanced Leadership Camp in Fort Lewis, Wash. The 32-day camp of exercises and evaluations is often considered the most important training event in preparation for future commissioning as an Army officer.
BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE, Berea
Music theater major Dominic Roberts of Austintown performed his senior recital last Saturday at the Kleist Center for Art and Drama on campus, during the musical theater program "Laughing Matters." He also is a member of Ars Nova, a new campus organization for those interested in musical theater. A 2000 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, Roberts is the son of Rita and Ralph Roberts.
ASHLAND UNIVERSITY
Cery Rogers of New Middletown is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi education honor society at the school, based on grade point average and other academic requirements. Parents of the intervention specialist major are Richard and Judy Rogers.
Middle school education major Christopher Kondas of Canfield, son of Christopher W. Kondas, serves as officer of judicial affairs and standards on the university's Student Senate. Members of the Senate are elected by students and must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.5.
Education major Rebecca Hahn of Poland is a member of Footlighters at the university, a group interested in art and theater that holds fund-raisers, sponsors theater events and performs interactive plays. She is the daughter of Dean and Shirley Hahn.
Two local students are members of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the university. They are Lindsay Banner of Liberty, daughter of Allan and Patricia Banner, and mathematics major Paul Carmany of New Middletown, son of James and Wanda Carmany.
Two Boardman students are completing student-teaching assignments this fall through the university. Physical and health education major Adriane Blewitt, daughter of Frederick and Rae Blewitt, teaches physical education and health at Ashland High School. Integrated science major Danica Hull, daughter of Nancy Hull, teaches science at Lexington High School.
