Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club has been selected to host the 2010 U.S. Women's Open, the United States Golf Association announced. The championship is scheduled for July 4-11, 2010. Opened in 1903, Oakmont last hosted the Women's Open in 1992, when Patty Sheehan won in a playoff. Oakmont has hosted more USGA championships than all but Merion (Pa.) Golf Club, The Country Club (Mass.) and Baltusrol (N.J.) Golf Club. The 2007 men's U.S. Open is scheduled to be played at Oakmont.
Schmidt predictsRose decision
Mike Schmidt thinks Bud Selig has been delaying a decision on whether to reinstate Pete Rose, but predicted the commissioner would act by the end of the month. Schmidt has been pushing Selig for more than a year to reinstate Rose, who agreed in 1989 to a lifetime ban from baseball following an investigation of his gambling. The former Cincinnati Reds player and manager applied for reinstatement in 1997.
