Rubbermaid plans to cut850 jobs in hometown
WOOSTER -- Newell Rubbermaid announced Tuesday that it plans to halt production in Rubbermaid's hometown and eliminate 850 jobs. Wooster was the birthplace 83 years ago of Rubbermaid. The company said the closing is the result of tornado damage and the need to reduce manufacturing capacity.
Five years ago, before its takeover by Newell Corp., the former Rubbermaid Inc. employed 1,400 people in Wooster. Newell Rubbermaid expects to sell the plant complex and move 400 white-collar jobs to another site.
A & amp;F catalog dropped
COLUMBUS -- Clothing retailer Abercrombie & amp; Fitch said Tuesday that it's discontinuing the A & amp;F Quarterly catalog, whose past issues were criticized for sexually explicit material.
Earlier this month, the company stopped selling its racy Christmas catalog. The company said it would replace the quarterly catalog with a new promotion.
Ford Escape is recalled
DEARBORN, Mich. -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling 130,000 Ford Escape sport utility vehicles because of a defect that can cause the driver and front-seat passenger seat belts to fail to latch. The recall, announced Tuesday, covers 2001-model Escapes.
