PREP ROUNDUP 'Cats use balance against Beaver



Howland wrestlers were sixth and Canfield eighth at the Potter Classic.
BEAVER, Pa. -- Shawn DeJohn scored 24 points, while Terry Grossetti added 19 and Steve McNees 15 to lead Shenango High's boys basketball team past Beaver 67-41 in the consolation game of the Blackhawk Tournament Saturday night.
Matt Norge added nine points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats.
McNees, who also had 12 assists and three steals, made the all-tournament team.
John Kearney had 19 points and Ray Kanapesky 14 for Beaver, while Eric Palkovich grabbed seven rebounds.
Erie McDowell beat Blackhawk in the championship game, 80-48.
Girls basketball
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Greenville was nearly perfect at the foul line, but not on the scoreboard, losing to Lakeview (Pa.), 45-36.
The Trojans (1-2), who went 17-for-18 from the line, got 10 points from Kristin Skelley.
Wrestling
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Howland was sixth, Canfield placed eighth, Slippery Rock was ninth and East Liverpool 11th at the Potter Classic Friday and Saturday.
Ravenna won the tournament with 386 points. Lorain Southview was second with 297.5 and Mt. Pleasant was third with 284.
Howland scored 196.5 points, Canfield scored 162, Slippery Rock scored 137.5 and East Liverpool scored 113.
For Howland, Dominic Terzigni (103 pounds), Brandon Alexander (189) and Rob Holbert (275) won their weight classes in level one.
Paul Mauser was third at 103 and Ray Crawford (135) and Alex Wall (145) were fourth.
In level two, Howland's place-winners were Cody Leek (first at 119), Josh Stauffer (third at 125), Skyleer Seelbach (fourth at 130), Mike Bradley (fourth at 140) and Bill Kalogeras (third at 160).
For Canfield, Jarek Esarco was second at 189 pounds in level one. Also, Matt Norducci (125), Steve Pitts (152), Jim Hendrickson (171) and Alec Roman (215) placed fourth.
In level two, Canfield's place-winners were Dan Vivucqua (second at 112), Robert Dechurch (third at 119), Nick Decola (fourth at 125), Bryan Benedict (first at 135), Ken Duff (first at 140), Mike Magyar (second at 145), J.J. Pankewicz (third at 145) and Chris Traikoff (first at 160).
East Liverpool's Stephen Badgley (215) and T.J. Slager (275) finished third in their weight classes in level one. Anthony Duffield (112) and Eric Diagosta (275) placed fourth.
In level two, Jake Dawson (103), Shane Atkins (145) and Ron Scott (152) all placed fourth.
For Slippery Rock, Jeff Becker (140) was first and Trevor Gallo (171) was third in level one, while Peter Didik (103) and Bubby Kearney (145) were first in level two.
The tournament was a round robin format and wrestlers were placed in level one or level two based on their records.
