A few more guidelines from the butler who did it all:
Instead of six or more courses, three courses is plenty. Simple roasts or casseroles are perfectly acceptable, as are buffets.
Colored tapers and napery are now acceptable (as long as they're pastel).
To keep crystal sparkling, wipe it with a silk handkerchief just before the guests are seated.
Though some might think it bad feng shui, the point of a wedge of pie or cake should be directed toward the diner.
Take a little bit of everything that's offered even if it is food you hate. Then leave it on your plate without making an issue of it.
