FEDERAL FUNDING Local projects
The $820 billion omnibus spending package approved Monday by the U.S. House includes funding for a number of local projects. The bill must also pass the U.S. Senate, which isn't expected to consider it until Jan. 20 at the earliest. Some of the local projects to be funded are:
State Route 46, Mahoning and Trumbull counties, $2.5 million for improvements.
Sharon Regional Health Center, Sharon, Pa., $664,000 to stabilize its work force for patient care.
Warren Riverwalk, $500,000 for scenic byway transportation.
Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Rootstown, $500,000 for education program funding.
St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, $400,000 for construction, renovation and equipment purchases.
Hopewell Therapeutic Farm Community, Mesopotamia, $390,000 to improve its treatment programs and provide more care for low-income patients.
Niles/Trumbull Transit, Niles, $220,000 to fund its transit program.
UPMC Horizon, Farrell, Pa., $174,000 to stabilize its work force for patient care.
Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, Pa., $161,000 for its Center on Disability and Health to promote and encourage regular physical activities.
New Castle Transit Authority, New Castle, Pa., $100,000 to purchase buses.
Warren Urban Minority Alcohol and Drug Abuse Outreach Program, Warren, $100,000.
Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry, Youngstown, $50,000 to expand its health care and counseling services.
Kent State University, Kent, $750,000 for the Northeast Ohio Alliance for Biopreparedness, a consortium that includes Youngstown State University, the 910th Airlift Wing in Vienna, NEOUCOM, and Summa Health Systems.
