3rd member of family dies from fire injuries

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- John Pollock, 74, of 18 Old Bedford Road, has died of injuries suffered in a fire that also claimed his wife and son.
Pollock died Thursday in Akron General Medical Center. He had been a patient in the burn unit of Akron Children's Hospital for weeks after the Oct. 3 fire at his home and had been transferred to Akron General in November.
The blaze killed his son, Mark, 46, a Shenango Township volunteer firefighter, and sent Pollock and his wife, Shirley, 75, to the hospital.
Shirley Pollock died Nov. 23 in St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
The origin of the early morning fire was traced to a chair in the basement, and authorities said it may have been caused by a discarded cigarette.
Firefighters found the three near the front door of the home, an indication they had tried to escape the fire but were overcome by smoke. Mark Pollock died of smoke inhalation.
