Police search for burglary suspect who hit officer

AUSTINTOWN -- Police are looking for a male burglary suspect accused of striking an officer with a plastic bag full of rolled change during a foot chase early this morning.
Officer Gregory Brinsko was treated by paramedics for cuts and bruises to his head.
A second suspect, Michael Pierce, 38, of Lincoln Park Drive, Youngstown, was arrested after the chase and charged with complicity to breaking and entering, receiving stolen property, and failure to comply.
Police were called to the Sav-a-Step, 4226 Mahoning Ave., about 1:15 a.m. and found the store's front window broken and cash register missing. A witness told police that he saw a man get into a car on North Edgehill Avenue after the burglary and drive away.
Police located the car near Four Mile Run Road and chased it to Glen Oaks Drive in Youngstown, where the driver and the passenger got out and ran. Police then chased both men on foot, finding Pierce, the driver of the car, under a pine tree on Susan Circle Drive.
Brinsko was hit in the head by the car's passenger. The blow knocked Brinsko to the ground, and the passenger got away. Police searched the car and found a cash tray that had been taken from another Mahoning Avenue gas station in an earlier burglary.
