MAC Akron defeats James Madison



Ohio and Western Michigan won while Bowling Green didn't.

AKRON -- Jeremiah Wood and Rick McFadden each scored four points in a 12-0 second-half run to lead Akron to a 78-70 victory over James Madison on Saturday.
Wood and Derrick Tarver each scored 18 points for the Zips (3-1), with Andy Hipsher adding 15.
The Zips' lead was cut to 42-39 on Ray Barbosa's layup with 15:13 left. But Akron held James Madison (2-3) scoreless for the next four minutes.
McFadden -- from Struthers -- started the spurt with a 3-pointer and Wood capped it with a dunk off John Hollingsworth's assist. Wood had a basket and two free throws and Hipsher and Rob Preston each added a bucket.
Dwayne Broyles scored 24 points, Chris Cathlin 15 and Barbosa 12 for James Madison.
Northwestern 77,Bowling Green 60
BOWLING GREEN -- Jitim Young scored 23 points and Vedran Vukusic added 20 to lead Northwestern.
Vukusic was 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7 in 3-point attempts for the Wildcats (4-3), who hit 50 percent of their 3-point attempts (12-of-24) to 27 percent for the Falcons (4-of-15).
Kevin Netter led Bowling Green with 16 points, hitting all eight of his shots. Austin Montgomery and Josh Almanson added 11 points apiece.
Davor Duvancic was 3-of-4 from the 3-point line and Young was 2-of-4. Duvancic finished with 13 points and Mohamed Hachad added 12 for Northwestern.
Ohio 71, Brown 62
ATHENS -- Jeff Halbert hit four of his five 3-pointers and scored 14 points to lead Ohio (2-4).
Ohio had four players in double figures, including Thomas Stephens and Jaivon Harris (Alliance) with 11 points each.
Jamie Kilbourn led Brown (2-5) with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
W. Michigan 61, Miami, Ohio 38
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Ben Reed scored 22 points, including five 3-point baskets in the second half, to lead Western Michigan.
Reed made 6-of-7 from 3-point range and led three Broncos (2-1) players who reached double figures. Anthony Kann added 15 and Mike Williams scored 13, along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Josh Hausfeld led Miami (2-2) with 10 points. But Juby Johnson, ranked 16th nationally with 23 points per game, was shut out for the first 29 minutes and finished with five points.
Central Michigan 69, Notre Dame 68
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Joe Carr hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key just before the buzzer to give Central Michigan the victory over No. 23 Notre Dame.
Kevin Nelson, who led Central Michigan with 17 points, made a 3-pointer with 19 seconds left to cut Notre Dame's lead to 64-62.
Brandon Vorhees added 13 points for Central Michigan and Gerrit Brigitha added nine.
Chris Thomas led the Irish (2-2) with 24 points. Chris Quinn scored 13, Colin Falls had 11 and Torin Francis added 10.
