Pre-holiday glitz updates old wardrobes
KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
Clothing with glitter was once reserved for the holiday season and charity ball gowns.
Now the fashion folks see it for any old time, in hopes it will appeal to consumers as a way to update a wardrobe. Thanks in part go to the ongoing promotions of Swarovski crystals, which have infiltrated shoe design and temporary tattoos with glitz. In any event, glistening, sparkling clothes and accessories are just popping up all over the place.
First, the fashionistas love it. During the recent New York Fashion Week, a woman sits in a noon fashion show with her feet swathed in rhinestone-drenched sandals. Second, on the designer front, a pullover preppy sweater takes on a gilded glaze when worn with beaded pants. Chaiken put a Swarovski crystal-splattered camisole with sport pants in the recent fashion shows.
Meanwhile, one thing is sure. Revelers will pull out all the glitzy stops for the holidays. Start stocking up now on metallics, feathers and crystals, which can be sewn on everything from denim to leather, jersey and chiffon.
