HUBBARD Officials to discuss, seek grant to help Maplewood Park area

HUBBARD -- A public meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the township administration building to discuss the needs of the Maplewood Park area.
The meeting is being hosted by the township trustees, Maplewood Park Improvement Club and Trumbull County Planning Commission.
Julie Green, planning commission staffer, said the meeting is part of the process in applying for an Ohio Department of Development community distress grant.
Green said the grant, if approved, would be used for resurfacing streets, constructing storm sewers, creating a recreational area and demolishing vacant structures.
The commission is applying for $300,000.
Green said $150,000 has been set aside as the local portion.
The area is generally bounded by the Youngstown city limits to the south, Hubbard city limits to the north, state Route 616 to the east and Jacobs Road to the west.
Green explained there are about 110 households with nearly 79 percent being of low to moderate income.
Attendance at the Wednesday meeting is encouraged, she explained, because citizen participation increases the chance of getting the grant approved.
