GIRLS BASKETBALL Hubbard tops Fitch for first win
Lynle Cornell scored 22 points to lead the Eagles.
AUSTINTOWN -- The Hubbard High girls basketball team bounced back from a loss against Boardman to win its first game against another Federal League opponent.
Lynle Cornell scored 22 points and Danielle DeJulio added 12 as the Eagles (1-1) defeated host Austintown Fitch 50-39 Thursday.
Cornell, Loni Sargent and Danielle Nock each grabbed six rebounds for the winners.
Fitch (1-2) was led by Bre Alleman and Krista Mayes with 10 points each. Mayes also grabbed eight rebounds.
East Liverpool 56, Chaney 47
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Nicole Artis and Tieara Jones scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Chaney (0-3). Quiana Faison grabbed 19 rebounds and Artis had 10.
The Potters led 34-24 at halftime of their season-opening victory.
Youngstown Christian 53,Wilson 42
YOUNGSTOWN -- Rachel Corstin had 22 points and 12 rebounds as Youngstown Christian defeated Wilson at South High Fieldhouse. Beverly Young added nine points and 11 rebounds for the winners (1-1).
Wilson (0-3) got 11 points each from Kesha Letlow, Leslie Norwood and Rhonnesa Griffin.
Liberty 50, Howland 36
LIBERTY -- Lena Esmail had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Liberty past Howland.
The Leopards took control early, leading 14-1 after the first quarter. Chenelle Mills added 11 points and six rebounds for Liberty (2-1).
Ana Cvengros had 10 points for Howland (0-2).
Ashtabula Edgewood 62,Lakeview 54
ASHTABULA -- Pam Greslinski went over 1,000 points for a career as she tallied 19 to pace Edgewood.
Theresa Markley and Trisha Greslinski added 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Christina Martin led the Bulldogs (0-2) with 19 points. Lindsay Whetzel and Natalie Sudzine each had 13 and 11, with Whetzel grabbing 11 rebounds and Sudzine handing out five assists.
Champion 67, Badger 55
KINSMAN -- Jessica Carpenter scored seven of her 14 points in a 12-2 run to end the third quarter as Champion pulled away from Badger.
Heather Pegg also added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Flashes (2-1), and Jessica Wood had 11 points and five assists.
Christine Miller poured in 20 points for Badger (1-3), and Tessa Bonar added 11 rebounds and four assists.
Maplewood 35, Brookfield 32
CORTLAND -- Unbeaten Maplewood (3-0) led 17-12 at halftime and held on for the victory.
Jen Bell paced the Rockets with eight points. Rachel Pasquirilla led the Warriors (1-1) with 12 points.
