PENGUINS Flyers' defense scores 2 in victory

Chris Therien and Eric Weinrich scored their first goals of the season in a 5-2 win.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Flyers defensemen Chris Therien and Eric Weinrich had an ongoing battle this season about who would score first.
The difference was a mere 49 seconds. Weinrich was the winner Wednesday night when he scored in the second period of the Philadelphia Flyers' 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"I went right to him when he scored," Therien said of Weinrich. "I said when he scored, 'Oh jeez, I hope that got tipped.' But he didn't have the lead long. That was the fun part about it."
Therien finished a close second when he stretched Philadelphia's lead to 4-1, netting his first of the season with 5:58 remaining in the second.
"It was good fun to do that," said Therien, who scored only one goal last season.
Unbeaten at home
Radovan Somik also scored his first goal of the season to help the Flyers extend their home-unbeaten streak to 13 games.
Weinrich is in his 16th NHL season and has scored as many as seven goals three times in his career. Last season he had two.
"A couple of days ago I was on a pace for four points this season," Weinrich said. "It's been kind of an ongoing joke in the room this year between me and Chris Therien as to who would score first."
Jeremy Roenick and Mark Recchi also scored for Philadelphia, the only team in the NHL still unbeaten at home (11-0-2). The Flyers had their overall 12-game unbeaten run (10-0-2) snapped with a loss Monday at Ottawa.
"I don't think we played a Flyer hockey game tonight," Roenick said. "We were fortunate to play against a team that was struggling a little. We have to be better as a team."
Hackett extends streak
Jeff Hackett stopped 30 shots to extend his unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1) for the Flyers, who lead the NHL with 36 points.
Matt Bradley and Ramzi Abid scored for the Penguins, who have won only two of 12 road games (2-9-1) and have the fewest points in the NHL with 17. Bradley put the Penguins ahead 1-0 just 20 seconds into the first period.
The Flyers tied it at 5:29, nine seconds into a power play, when Roenick tipped in a slap shot by Eric Desjardins. Somik made it 2-1 at 10:44. After Weinrich scored at 13:13, Therien beat Caron less than a minute later.
"We know that they have a legitimate chance to go to the Stanley Cup and we battled them hard again," Pittsburgh coach Eddie Olczyk said.
Abid and Recchi traded third-period goals.
