NBA Cavaliers lose 33rd straight road game
Cleveland returns to an extended homestand afterlosing by 10 to the Clippers.
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers are going home, and they can't wait.
That's how difficult life on the road has been.
Quentin Richardson scored 25 points, and Corey Maggette had six of his 22 points in the final 1 minute, 16 seconds, as the Los Angeles Clippers beat Cleveland 90-80 on Wednesday night to hand the Cavaliers their 33rd consecutive road loss.
The Clippers outscored the Cavaliers 10-1 to finish the game.
The Cavaliers (4-15), who have played 12 of their 19 games on the road this season, begin a four-game home stand Saturday night against Atlanta.
Nine of their remaining 13 games in December will be played at Gund Arena.
"We've been playing terrific at home," said Carlos Boozer, who had 14 points and a career-high 21 rebounds, "so we've got to be excited about getting some home cooking and playing the next four at home."
Third-longest skid
Cleveland's road losing streak is the third-longest in NBA history behind Sacramento's 43-game streak in the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons and New Jersey's 34-game streak in 1989-90 and 1990-91.
The loss was also the eighth straight overall for the Cavaliers since they beat the Clippers 103-95 in Cleveland Nov. 18.
"Everybody wants to talk about the streak, but it's not like we're getting blown out on the road," Boozer said. "We're playing really good on the road and I think we played really good tonight. We just didn't have it at the end."
That's typical of the way things have been going. Only this time, LeBron James watched the Cavaliers unravel from the bench.
The 18-year-old shot 2-for-13 for four points and sat out the final 6:46. He also had six rebounds and eight assists and didn't attempt a free throw.
"LeBron was struggling tonight," Cavaliers coach Paul Silas said. "[Darius] Miles came in with energy. I just wanted to take a look at other people."
Silas-James conference
Silas and James conferred briefly in the dressing room after the game, and James later said he wasn't upset about being on the bench down the stretch.
"The coach makes those decisions," James said. "We have a lot of games to go, and most of the time I'll be in there in the fourth [quarter], so I'm not worried about it."
Rookie Chris Kaman had 14 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots for the Clippers (6-8), who have won two straight after losing six in a row.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas led Cleveland with 24 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. Ricky Davis added 16 points for the Cavaliers. A basket by Miles and a free throw by Ilgauskas cut the Clippers' lead to 80-79 with 2:05 remaining, but the Cavaliers would score only one more point. "If I could get out there and play for them [at the end of games], I would," Silas said.
