AUSTINTOWN -- Police are looking for a 17-year-old girl who has been missing since Monday. Police said Rachel E. Hill of Shadow Oak Drive left a note for her parents stating she was leaving home and hasn't been seen by her family since that day.
Anyone who has seen Hill since then is asked to call Austintown police at (330) 799-9721.
Felonious assault charge
STRUTHERS -- A 21-year-old State Street man was charged with felonious assault in the stabbing of an 18-year-old woman Wednesday afternoon.
The stabbing occurred at 268 State St., which was listed as the address for the victim and the accused.
Police said Candi L. Dutting had multiple stab wounds, for which she was treated at Forum Health Northside Medical Center in Youngstown. Dutting told police that her ex-boyfriend stabbed her.
Police went to Dutting's residence and found the suspect, Jacob M. Burkholder, asleep on a mattress in a bedroom. Police also found bloodstains on the floor and on a couch in the bedroom.
Burkholder pleaded innocent at his arraignment Friday in Struthers Municipal Court. His bond was set at $5,000.
Man fleeing cops is bitten
FARRELL, Pa. -- A 20-year-old Youngstown man was bitten by a dog, zapped by a police officer with a stun gun and charged with resisting arrest after he ran from police who were trying to arrest him on a warrant for unpaid fines, police said.
After police stopped the vehicle he was driving on French Street near Beechwood Avenue at 5:38 p.m. Thursday, Robert Dontai Russell, of Gibson Street, ran through several yards with police in pursuit, according to a police department news release.
After being treated for the dog bite, he was arraigned by District Justice Henry Russo, who set bond at $3,000 and a preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Accident injures trooper
MERCER, Pa. -- State Trooper Richard Houk, 35, was treated at UPMC Horizon Greenville after an accident Friday morning on Interstate 80 eastbound one mile west of Mercer.
Houk was the driver of a state police car that had stopped on the inside berm to provide traffic control for a previous accident.
Veronica Ann Bailey, 41, of Madison, N.Y., was eastbound in the left lane at 8:57 a.m. and attempted to use the berm to pass a vehicle ahead of her that had slowed at the accident scene. The Ford Explorer Bailey was driving hit the cruiser, and both spun into the median.
Bailey and her passenger, Lyndsey Ryan Miller, a 1-year-old girl in a child safety seat, were not injured. Bailey and Houk wore their seat belts.
Warning: Stay off viaduct
SHARON, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has warned pedestrians to stay off the Oakland Avenue Viaduct, where high fences have been erected on both ends and no trespassing signs are in place.
The bridge is in a dangerous condition because workers are removing the decking in preparation for dismantling and reconstructing the misaligned viaduct.
Police are patrolling the area, and trespassers will be prosecuted.
Roundtable and concert
MERCER, Pa.-- The Mercer County Historical Society will conduct its monthly Civil War Roundtable at 7 p.m. Tuesday and its annual Christmas candlelight concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Both programs are free. The roundtable program at society headquarters, 119 S. Pitt St., will focus on the Antietam and Harper's Ferry campaign. The concert, featuring the society's Chamber Players, will be in the Helen Black Miller Memorial Chapel on Pitt Street.
SRU commencement
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Tony Norman, award-winning columnist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, will deliver Slippery Rock University's winter commencement address at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13. There are 71 master's degree candidates and more than 420 undergraduates. Commencement will be in the Morrow Field House. No tickets are required.
Ohio SchoolNet grant
CANFIELD -- The Mahoning County Educational Service Center received a $50,000 Ohio SchoolNet grant to support an expansion of its videoconferencing in classrooms.
Mythology Fair canceled
LISBON -- Because of Friday's snowstorm, the Columbiana County Educational Service Center canceled its EXCEL Fall Mythology Fair scheduled for Friday night at the Leetonia Schools.
