Hubbard woman charged in hindering apprehension, theft

SHARON, Pa. -- A 20-year-old Hubbard woman is in Mercer County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bond on charges of hindering apprehension and theft, after police said she cut a monitoring bracelet from the ankle of a parolee who was under electronically monitored house arrest.
Tarah Thompson, of Cyrus Avenue, was arrested early Friday in the parking lot of a Sharpsville Avenue bar. She was apprehended after the parolee, Robert Johnson, 41, of 840 Wallis Ave., Sharon, told police she had cut off his bracelet to avoid having him tracked to 390 Quimby St., where police said they found him hiding under clothes in a closet early Thursday.
Johnson had earlier called police to his home, saying he believed someone was in his attic. While police were there, Johnson jumped out a window, breaking his ankle, police said. The Quimby Street address where police apprehended him is only a block from his residence. Johnson was charged with violating his parole.
After a doctor at a local hospital confirmed his ankle was broken, parole agents let him go home, rather than sending him to jail. District Justice James McMahon set a preliminary hearing for 11 a.m. Dec. 16. Police have not recovered the bracelet, Detective Sgt. Steven F. Ray said.
