EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Duke's defense and balanced scoring turned the marquee matchup of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge into a classic rout.
Shelden Williams scored 16 points to lead four Blue Devils in double figures and No. 6 Duke forced a slew of turnovers in a 72-50 victory over No. 5 Michigan State on Wednesday night.
Duke (4-1) took control of the game in the first half with a 20-2 run during which the Spartans committed 17 of their 20 turnovers.
Duke's J.J. Redick scored 13 points, Shavlik Randolph had 11 and Chris Duhon added 10 points and six assists.
Michigan State (3-2) didn't have a player score in double figures. Chris Hill and Kelvin Torbert each scored eight.
Virginia 86, Minnesota 78
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Elton Brown scored a career-high 26 points and ignited a tie-breaking 13-1 second-half run for Virginia (4-0).
Minnesota (2-2) lost despite 32 points and 13 rebounds from freshman Kris Humphries and 20 points from Michael Bauer.
Derrick Byars added 16 points and nine rebounds for Virginia.
Purdue 76, Clemson 64
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Kenneth Lowe scored 24 points for No. 20 Purdue, the only team that had never won a game in the five-year history of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. The Boilermakers (5-0) also got 12 points each by David Teague and Ivan Kartelo each finished with 12 points.
Sharrod Ford led Clemson (3-1) with 12 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Shawan Robinson and Lamar Rice each added 11 points.
Northwestern 69, Bucknell 61
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Jitim Young had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Northwestern.
T.J. Parker added 14 points and Evan Seacat had nine for Northwestern (3-3), which never trailed in the game.
Chris McNaughton scored 22 points for the Bison (0-4), while Kevin Bettencourt added 11.
