YOUNGSTOWN YSU plans symposium on Pakistan to honor educator's retirement



YOUNGSTOWN -- A symposium on Pakistan, in honor of the retirement of 35-year Youngstown State University educator Ikram Khawaja, is scheduled for 1 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
The event will be in Moser Hall's Schwebel Auditorium on the YSU campus. A banquet will follow the symposium at 7 p.m. in the DeBartolo Stadium Club at Stambaugh Stadium.
The free, public symposium features guest speakers from the fields of sociology, political science, geology, environmental chemistry and archeology, including researchers from universities in Pakistan and various U.S. states.
Khawaja, former interim dean of the YSU College of Arts and Sciences, devoted 35 years to teaching, research, administration and service to YSU and the neighboring community.
The Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences is seeking donations in tribute to Dr. Khawaja to the Geology Scholarship Accounts to support undergraduate research. Call (330) 941-3612.
