YOUNGSTOWN -- The Salvation Army in Mahoning County has launched its annual Red Kettle Fund-raising Campaign, which runs through Dec. 24.
The goal is to raise $200,000 to provide food or toys to 5,751 people, including 2,575 children.
Major David Lyle, the area coordinator for the Salvation Army in Mahoning County, said requests for assistance this Christmas are up 35 percent over last year. The Salvation Army has helped 30 percent more individuals this year to date than in 2002.
