DiCarlo namedAll-American
ALLIANCE -- Jess DiCarlo, a sophomore outside hitter for the Mount Union College volleyball team from Austintown Fitch High, has gained All-American honors.
DiCarlo, who led the Ohio Athletic Conference in hitting percentage (.355), been named was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III All-American Team as an honorable mention.
She became the first Mount Union volleyball player to make All-American.
DiCarlo also had 498 kills to rank fifth in the OAC in kills per game (3.83). She helped Mount Union to its second-highest win total with a 25-10 record.
The Purple Raiders have won 20 or more games for the nine of the last 11 seasons under coach Sandy Douglas.
DiCarlo previously was named to the All-OAC first team. Last year, she was an All-OAC honorable mention.
Wilder earnsall-OAC status
BEREA -- Nate Wilder, a junior tight end for the Baldwin-Wallace College football team from Cardinal Mooney High, has been named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference first team.
Wilder had six touchdown catches this season which led the B-W team, and had a 20 receptions overall (for 294 yards) to tie for No. 4 on the team.
Wilder helped the Yellow Jackets to a 10-2 record, including a second-place 8-1 in the OAC.
B-W was eliminated by Wheaton, 16-12, last Saturday in a second-round game of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Astro Falconsplace third
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Astro Falcons 48-and-over baseball team, managed by Don Christian, placed third in the AA Masters Division of the Roy Hobbs World Series, held in Fort Myers, Fla.
Terry Hogan was named team MVP. Other team members were: Larry Allen, Joe Bertilacci, John Cashbaugh, John Carmack, Don Hileman, Doug Lane, Ron Langley, Tom Murphy, Pete Rozzi, Tom Welsh and Charlie White.
Correction
The name of Devrim Olgun was omitted from a recent listing of the Youngstown Borderhawks, a PeeWee AA Minor ice hockey team that won the Gold Cup tournament last weekend.
Howser earnscollege honors
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University volleyball player Jen Howser has been named to the All-Atlantic Region and honorable mention All-American honors by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
She repeated her first-team all-region selection.
Howser also was picked second-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division.

CORTLAND -- A limited number of tickets for Friday's basketball game at Maplewood are on sale at the Lakeview High Athletic Department.
Mount soccerteams honored
ALLIANCE -- The Mount Union College men's and women's soccer programs have been named National Coaches Association of America College Team Academic Award winners.
The Raiders men's team earned a 3.11 GPA while the women had a 3.44 GPA this season.
Wilson winsTurkey Trot
WARREN -- Rick Wilson won the 5-mile run while Scott Hilditch took the 2-mile event, to headline the 2003 Warren Turkey Trot runs that had 1,220 overall finishers.
Wilson was timed in 25 minutes, 58 seconds to top a field of 460 finishers.
Hilditch of Stow was clocked in 10:14 to lead a field of 760 runners.
David James of Canton was second behind Wilson in 27:10, followed by Rick Kattouf, Warren, in 27:49; Terry McClusky, Vienna, 28:27; and Mark Szymanski, Boardman, 28:34.
Aaron Thornton of McDonald trailed Hilditch in 10:17, followed by Craig Rupe, Cortland, in 10:18; Ryan Gilanyi, Southington,10:33; and Luke Gray, Chardon, 10:39.

Marlins signLowell, Castillo
MIAMI -- With Mike Lowell and Luis Castillo re-signed, the Florida Marlins turned their attention to Ivan Rodriguez.
Lowell agreed to a $32 million, four-year contract with the Marlins, who also confirmed their $16 million, three-year deal with Castillo.
Pushing ahead with the team's offseason business, general manager Larry Beinfest said Florida had made a multiyear offer to Rodriguez, the 10-time All-Star catcher who was a key to the Marlins' World Series title.
Cubs inkHawkins
NEW YORK -- The Chicago Cubs picked up a key bridge to closer Joe Borowski, agreeing to an $11 million, three-year contract with hard-throwing right-hander LaTroy Hawkins.
Hawkins, who turns 31 later this month, was 9-3 with a 1.86 ERA in 77 1-3 innings and made $3 million in the option year of what originally was a two-year contract.
Cardinals LBsuspended
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals linebacker Raynoch Thompson has been suspended by the NFL for the final four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
Thompson's agent, James Williams, said the violation involved alcohol.
