THE BASICS
Make sure the bed is bearable. Sleep in it for a night yourself to make sure it's comfy.
Clear out the top two drawers of the dresser and line them with wrapping or scented paper. Leave a sachet inside.
Create a convenient spot for a suitcase, such as a luggage rack or top of a low dresser.
Declutter the space. Remove knick-knacks from the tops of dressers so your guests have room to put personal items.
Make sure the curtains are easily operated and sufficiently darken the room.
Leave some rod space in the closet, along with 10 to 20 empty hangers.
Provide a radio/CD player on the nightstand with a variety of music selections.
Include a wind-up or electric alarm clock within view of the bed.
Provide fluffy, clean towels, folded on the bed or on the top of the commode in the guest bath.
Include extra towels.
Be sure to have extra toilet paper and tissues, and supply a bath mat.
THE EXTRAS
Include a night light in the guest bath and hallway, and a flashlight for added security.
Provide a trash can in the bedroom and bathroom.
Leave a special cup or glass for rinsing after toothbrushing.
Equip a basket or container with toiletries, such as a toothbrush, shower cap, Q-tips, soap, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, razor, aspirin and sewing kit.
Leave a dark-colored washcloth tied up with a ribbon for make-up removal.
If you have the space, provide a desk table, telephone and dial-up port for computer use.
Furnish the room with a comfy chair or chaise with an accent lamp for reading.
Provide a reading lamp at the bedside for late-night reading.
Supply an iron and ironing board in the closet.
