GREENSBORO, N.C. -- North Carolina's short bench wasn't a problem after all Tuesday night.
The 10th-ranked Tar Heels remained undefeated with an 88-81 victory over No. 11 Illinois in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, outlasting one of the nation's deepest teams.
Sean May's 23 points and 14 rebounds led North Carolina. But May got plenty of help from Rashad McCants, who added 20 points, and Jawad Williams, who played with a hip pointer but added 18, as all five North Carolina starters logged at least 31 minutes.
Deron Williams led Illinois (3-1) with 22 points, while Roger Powell added 20.
No. 18 Wake Forest 100, Indiana 67
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Eric Williams scored 25 points and freshman Chris Paul had 20, both career highs, to lead Wake Forest in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Vytas Danelius added 13 points, Justin Gray had 11 and Jamaal Levy had 12 rebounds for Wake Forest.
Bracey Wright scored 27 points to lead Indiana (2-2).
Michigan 68, N.C. State 61
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Daniel Horton scored 16 points to lead Michigan in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
Michigan reserve Dion Harris scored 14 points.
Julius Hodge led N.C. State with 25 points.
Maryland 73, No. 15 Wisconsin 67, OT
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Jamar Smith scored a career-high 25 points, including the go-ahead basket with 56 seconds left for Maryland.
Smith also had 12 rebounds, his fourth double-double in four games. Chris McCray scored a career-high 15 points and John Gilchrist had 12 points and nine assists for the Terrapins (4-0).
Devin Harris scored 24 points for the Badgers (3-1).
Mid-American Conference
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- DeAndre Haynes scored 18 points to lead Kent State past Eastern Michigan 83-74 in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
The defending East Division champion Golden Flashes (4-0) won their eighth straight over the Eagles (2-3), who have not won a MAC opener since the 1999-2000 season.
Eastern Michigan hasn't defeated Kent State since 1997-98.
Bryan Bedford and John Edwards each scored 16 points and Jason Edwin and Eric Haut added 13 apiece for Kent State.
James Jackson scored a career-best 19 points for Eastern Michigan.
