FORT WORTH, Texas -- Keith Langford scored 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting to lead No. 1 Kansas to an 85-66 victory over TCU Monday night.
The Jayhawks (3-0), who became the No. 1 team in The Associated Press' poll earlier in the day with a jump from sixth -- the biggest to the top in the poll in almost 40 years -- led for good after Langford's short jumper in traffic with 17:33 remaining broke a 43-all tie.
Corey Santee led TCU (1-2) with 19 points, while Nucleus Smith had 13.
No. 3 Connecticut 75, Lehigh 55
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Ben Gordon scored 19 points and had a career-high five steals to lead the Huskies (5-1), who were playing their first game after relinquishing the No. 1 ranking, which they held in the preseason poll and for the first two weeks of the regular season.
Rashad Anderson finished with 14 points and Denham Brown had 13 points and eight rebounds to help UConn overcome a rocky first half against the smaller Mountain Hawks (1-3).
Jose Olivero led Lehigh with 17 points and Ra Tiah was 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point line and finished with 11.
No. 9 Kentucky 89, Marshall 76
CINCINNATI -- Gerald Fitch scored 24 points and the Wildcats withstood Marshall's 3-point flurry and second-half comeback.
Fitch, a senior guard who had a career-high 36 points against Tennessee Tech on Friday, was the only consistent threat for Kentucky (3-0), which let a 13-point lead dwindle to six in the closing minutes.
Marshall (1-2) hit 10 3-pointers to keep Kentucky fidgety, but missed its last five shots from behind the arc and faded in the closing minutes.
Kelenna Azubuike added 16 points and Erik Daniels had 14 for Kentucky, which has won all 11 of its games with Marshall.
Ronny Dawn led Marshall with 23 points, going 7-of-9 on 3s.
No. 24 Marquette 71,No. 23 Notre Dame 58
MILWAUKEE -- Steve Novak scored a career-high 21 points, including five 3-pointers, and Scott Merritt added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Eagles (5-0).
Torin Francis had 23 points and nine rebounds for Notre Dame (2-1).
Novak hit consecutive 3-pointers that gave Marquette a 63-49 lead with 3:57 to play. Thomas cut it to seven with 1:23 to play, but Novak made four free throws and Travis Diener added two to seal the win for Marquette.
Women
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Jia Perkins scored 23 of her 29 points in the second half, leading No. 5 Texas Tech over California, 76-69.
Perkins scored eight of Tech's nine points during a critical second-half run that helped the Lady Raiders (7-0) break open a close game. Casey Jackson added with 17 points and Natalie Ritchie 14 for the Raiders.
Nihan Anaz and Leigh Gregory had 17 points each for Cal (3-2).
