EAST PALESTINE Man charged with attempting to rob cashier at knife point
EAST PALESTINE -- Police said the case of a city man charged with attempting to rob the Dairy Mart at 225 W. Main St. will be heard by a Columbiana County grand jury.
Police said William Lynch, 20, of North Market Street, is being held in the Columbiana County Jail.
He is charged with attempted robbery and underage consumption of alcohol.
Police said Lynch walked into the Dairy Mart around 8:45 p.m. Monday, went to the rear of the store and retrieved a bottled sports drink from a cooler.
He came back to the register and pulled a knife, police said.
The clerk refused to give Lynch money, telling him, "You don't want to do this."
Police said Lynch put the knife away and searched his pockets for money.
When he found he had no money, he left the store.
Police found Lynch at his home around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and found the knife at another residence.
