YOUNGSTOWN -- Four counterfeit $50 bills were taken Tuesday from a 15-year-old student at Wilson High School by school officials and turned over to police.
The East Boston Avenue boy had tried to pass off the money to two teachers and then ran when questioned, police said. The police report doesn't say why the boy attempted to give the money to the teachers. He was stopped when he tried to leave the building.
'Collector' isn't legitimate
YOUNGSTOWN -- The fire department is asking residents to call police if they see a man who says he's collecting donations for the department. The department is not conducting a fund-raiser.
Toy drive for strikers
STRUTHERS -- Nick's Department Store, 122 S. Bridge St., is having a toy drive to help United Steelworkers Local 9401 families who are on strike at Astro Shapes.
New, unwrapped gifts for children may be dropped off at Nick's from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
Bond set at $1 million
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bond was set at $1 million for Stefan Breedlove, 19, of Glenmont Avenue, who is charged with aggravated murder. Breedlove is accused of fatally shooting 16-year-old James Revere of Saranac Avenue on Nov. 23.
Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. of municipal court also set a $25,000 bond for Breedlove on an unrelated charge of aggravated menacing.
The judge also set a $10,000 cash bond for Keon L. Richardson, 19, of Clearmount Avenue, who faces two counts of aggravated menacing.
Breedlove and Richardson turned themselves in to police on Monday and were in court Tuesday.
Store owner charged
YOUNGSTOWN -- An undercover police officer bought an illegally duplicated CD for $5 and four illegally duplicated DVDs for $10 each at Big A's Market on McCartney Road on Tuesday afternoon, reports show.
The store owner, Hossein Montazeri, 45, of Saw Mill Run, Canfield, was charged with criminal simulation.
At about the same time, an underage police informant bought beer and cigarettes at the store, police said. The clerk, Anton Montazeri, 32, of Kirk Road, was charged with illegal sale of alcohol and illegal sale of tobacco products to an underage person.
Innocent plea in assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jody Dougherty, 39, of Hubbard, pleaded innocent Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, where she is charged with aggravated vehicular assault.
Police say Dougherty was the driver of a 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme that struck 13-year-old Breanna Simms on McGuffey Road at the Gray Avenue intersection July 25. The girl was hospitalized for her injuries.
In Youngstown Municipal Court, Dougherty also faces a charge of driving under the influence in the accident.
HealthForce anniversary
BOARDMAN -- Northeast Ohio HealthForce will celebrate its first anniversary with a holiday breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 10 at Mr. Anthony's.
HealthForce was formed to get competing health-care organizations to work together to address the problems of attracting, developing and retaining a skilled health-care work force.
HealthForce consists of chief executive officers of health-care providers, public officials and educators in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties.

'Q is for Quakers' book
SALEM -- "Q is for Quakers," a book on Salem schools' 150-year history, will go on sale soon. The volume consists of illustrations and text by Salem pupils and alumni.
A public reception for the contributors is set from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Burchfield Homestead Museum, 857 E. Fourth St. Copies of the book will be available for $11.99 each.
Beginning Tuesday, the book may be purchased at the school district administration building, 1226 E. State St.
Profits will be used for the district's libraries and for a proposed activity center to be built at the high school.
