Brookfield holds off charge from Badger



Maplewood is 2-0 after beating Lakeview.
KINSMAN -- Jackie Rust came off the bench to score 14 points and Brookfield High withstood a fourth-quarter rally to top Badger, 46-45, in a girls basketball game Monday.
The Warriors used a 13-2 run stretching the second and third quarters to take a 31-20 lead. Brookfield led 41-32 with 3 1/2 minutes remaining, but Badger went on a 13-5 run to finish the game.
Ashley Gransky had nine points and six rebounds for Brookfield (1-0), while Kaitlyn Nasci had four assists.
Samantha Bonar had 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals for Badger (1-2), while Tessa Bonar added 11 points and three assists and Christine Miller had 11 points.
Maplewood 34, Lakeview 32
CORTLAND -- Stephanie Schwartz scored eight points and Lisa Flickinger added seven points to pace Maplewood (2-0).
Natalie Sudzina scored seven points to lead the Bulldogs (0-1).
Girard 51, McDonald 48
MCDONALD -- Cachet Murray had a 16-point game to lead the Indians to a win in their season opener.
Ashleigh Tondo scored 20 points and Amy Dolsak had 15 points and 10 rebounds for McDonald (0-1).
Girard led 17-6 after the first quarter.
Champion 58, Mineral Ridge 34
MINERAL RIDGE -- Jessica Carpenter had 19 points -- including three 3s -- and Jessica Wood added 14 points for Champion, which led 30-17 at halftime.
Lauren Seafert added nine points for the Flashes.
Jenna Hinks led Mineral Ridge with eight points.
Niles 37, Liberty 34
LIBERTY -- Stacia Ray scored 13 points and Jaclyn Sears grabbed 10 rebounds for the Red Dragons (1-0).
Lena Esmail scored 13 points and Cherie Austin pulled in nine rebounds for the Leopards (1-1).
Liberty led 30-28 after three quarters, but Niles ended the game on a 9-4 flurry.
