Hunters are out in force as season starts

The first day of deer gun season in Ohio and Pennsylvania brought out plenty of hunters and a few onlookers. Above, Maplewood High School students, from left, Kathleen Kindle, Christina Zizzo, Brittany Rhodabarger and Andrea Lancey check out a deer that was shot Monday. They and other members of their life biology class visited a deer-checking station at Monty's Bait and Tackle in Mecca. They observed how deer are checked for age. At left, Jack Hughes of Champion shows off an 8-point buck that he shot in Trumbull County. Deer gun season continues through Sunday in Ohio and through Dec. 13 in Pennsylvania.
